Evaluation System

EVALUATION SYSTEM (BE, BCA, BBA):

Pokhara University has adopted internationally recognized evaluation and grading system. Students’ performance is evaluated in two phases – internally by the concerned subject teacher and the college and externally by the office of the controller of examinations through semester end examination. A three hour exam is conducted by the university at the end of each semester carrying full marks of 100 converted to 50% weight for final evaluation. Students’ internal marks will be determined on the basis of their accomplishment in the following areas: class test, first term, qualifying examination, assignment, attendance, practical, presentation and projects.

ATTENEDNCE CRITERIA

Students will have to achieve a minimum of 80% attendance in every subject, failing which particular student will be considered as NQ (Not Qualified) and will not be allowed to appear in the P.U. Semester End examination of that subject.

The performance of a student is evaluated in terms of two indices: a) Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) which is the grade point average of the particular semester and b) Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) which is the grade point average of all the semesters taken together.

SGPA=

Total honor points earned in a semester
———————————————————
Total number of credits registered in a semester

CGPA=

Total honor points earned
——————————————
Total number of credits completed

Degree with Distinction
To obtain a degree with distinction, a student must obtain a CGPA of 3.60 or better in the undergraduate level and 3.75 or better in the graduate level.

Dean’s List
The Dean’s list recognizes outstanding academic performance. To qualify, a student must obtain a CGPA of at least 3.7 in the undergraduate level and 3.8 in the graduate level.

Dismissal from the Program
A student is normally expected to obtain a CGPA of 2.0 in the undergraduate level and 3.0 in the graduate level. The student, whose performance in the past semesters does not show the possibility of maintaining this CGPA, may be dismissed from the program.
